Welcome to Coinsorter.org.uk

Are you fed up with all those pesky coins lying around, filling up jars and draws?  If so, why not invest in a cheap and simple coin sorter and get your life in order.  A coin sorter is a device which can automatically sort coins into different denominations and count them so you can easily see exactly how much money you have.

What is a coin sorter?

A coin sorter is essentially a machine which sorts coins. Sometimes also known as a coin counter, it is a type of device that can sort all the different denominations of coin you may have lying around into separate piles automatically. The most basic type of coin sorter is simply a jar with a funnel into which coins are inserted. The coins then slide or roll down a shoot with several slots cut into it corresponding to the diameter of each denomination of coin (eg 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, etc), and drop into whichever slot is the right size, easily sorting the coins without having to separate them manually. More recently, electronic and digital coin sorters have been developed to speed up the process, not only sorting coins but counting them as well, with some types even bagging up your currency into the correct amounts to take to the bank.

What are the benefits of owning a coin sorter?

A coin sorter is highly beneficial to anyone who has large amounts of coinage to sort out and count up. After a night out for instance, you may find that your pockets are full small change, that can be annoying to count or try and spend. For this reason a large numbers of coins often accumulate in jars, drawers or simply end up down the back of the sofa. If you own a coin sorter on the other hand, you can simply drop your change into the machine and easily see how much you have left. You can then bag up all that shrapnel and take it down to the bank or post office and get it changed into notes that can be spent easily. If you happen to own a small business such as a shop, where large amounts of coinage have to be carefully counted at the end of each day, an electronic coin sorter can prove invaluable, saving time for other duties cutting out the possibility of human error.

How much should I be looking to spend on a coin sorter?

This depends very much on what you need it for. A cheap electronic coin sorter will set you back between £15 and £20 and should be able to count a handful of coins at a time. Coin sorters like this are ideal as Christmas gifts, and a great way to get kids into the habit of saving their pocket money. For slightly higher volumes, and more functionality, such as the ability to wrap or bag up the coins as they are sorted, anywhere between £40 and £100 should get you an accurate coin counting machine, of high quality that could be of use to a small business. A professional coin sorter can cost anywhere between £150, for a medium volume (200 coins per minute, or so) machine, right up into the £1000s for the kind of sorting machines used by banks and large retail companies.
